New trail access at Katya Ct.

With the completion of a cul-de-sac turnaround at Katya Ct. off Chena Hills Dr., the access to the trail system has been temporarily re-routed to the north above the ditch line of the new cul-de-sac. We’ve placed guide-posts with rope to help prevent people coming too close to the ditch edge. Please observe safety.

Those who are familiar with Mark’s Bypass can still use that. At some point, we’ll improve that access.

2022 Annual Meeting Friends of the Koponen Homestead

The board of the non-profit Friends of the Koponen Homestead held their annual meeting March 12, 2022.

It has been a challenging year with snow, but the trails are doing amazingly well. One issue is the parking overload on Katya with the road being narrower and especially when Katya needs to get plowed. Another is that some trail users have been parking in front of the wooden gate of the resident who lives at the end. They use that gate regularly, so please be aware.

There is a trail access, Niilo’s Way, at the middle turnaround on Haman St. that can handle additional parking, so that is recommended if the Katya entrance has too many cars to allow for turnaround. At the Haman parking area, please park straight in to allow for additional vehicles and be careful not to block the Lot 20 driveway.

Development updates

Lot 27 has just been sold for farming purposes. Home construction is in full swing on several lots, despite high building costs. Buyers are anxious to begin living in this lovely community.

With the sale of Lot 27, there are only 5 lots remaining, all on the upper tier. Lots 17, 18, 19, 22, and 23.

As well, many new folks in the area are enjoying the trail system. Please pay attention to the signage on how to respectfully enjoy them.

This organization was created to assist in trail maintenance and other matters relating to trail use. New trail network status

The Friends of the Koponen Homestead group have established a pretty close routing for the new trails north of Porten Road, entering on the east end of what has been called the Bee Field. It is intended to terminate at the north end of the short trail between Lots 16 and 17 (Gary calls it ‘Gary’s Path’ because he built it to the high current standard (:-)

You may see varied colored surveyor’s tape out there if you do a little bushwhacking. If you make sense of it, we’d welcome your input.

Visible trail work will get started in spring of 2016. Since the funding of this trail needs some match and for general community building, volunteers for labor on this trail should contact info@koponenhomestead.com.
